| Open Question: Used car question... NY? October 28, 2009 at 5:07 pm |
| | I live in NY and a week ago I bought a used car (2000 Saturn) from a man who was selling it privately. Everything seemed fine until I was driving on the highway yesterday and it started shaking and vibrating and making a loud noise. I made an appointment with the mechanic who had checked it out for me (he's the person through whom the owner sold it to me) and he is going to let me know exactly what the problem is tomorrow. If the problem turns out to be something expensive to fix (axle, alignment, etc.) does the previous owner have to pay for it since I've only had the car for a week? I know there are lemon laws but I'm not exactly sure what he would be responsible for. Thanks. Also, I did call the previous owner and alerted him of the situation. He said the tires probably just need to be balanced and pretty much didn't want to deal with me. I told him I would call him back once the mechanic knew exactly what the problem is. We didn't discuss who would pay. | | | |
